ENERGY TRANSITION
The Indonesian Government has set the target of Renewable Energy Mix of 23% by 2025 and 31% by 2050. Furthermore, Indonesia has committed to a 29% reduction in emission against a Business as Usual scenario by 2030. PERTAMINA, as a National Oil company and a leading State-Owned Corporation plays an important role in leading the Indonesia’s energy industry transition into the target energy mix and emission reduction in ensuring sustainability. Our aspiration in pursuing green and sustainable energy is translated into eight pillars of the energy transition, including:
Upgrading our refineries to produce green fuels, further developing Bioenergy in form of biomass and bioethanol, optimizing the potential and increasing the installed capacity of geothermal as well as commercialization of hydrogen.
Furthermore, PERTAMINA is taking a strategic role in Indonesia’s integrated ecosystem of battery and energy storage. We are also strengthening our integrated gasification, helping our customer in transportation, household, and industry sectors to reduce emission. In power generation, we continue to scale up the utilization of New and Renewable Energy and Low Carbon Project allowing us to reduce our carbon footprint. We intend to implement carbon capture, utilization, and storage in enhancing production of several oil and gas fields.
Along with Indonesia’s commitment to reduce the emission by 29% in 2030, PERTAMINA supports the Government's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other emissions that cause global warming. The attempts to reduce emissions from operations and production activities include initiatives to utilize gas flares and the Blue Sky Program to urge people to use low-carbon emission fuels. Total GHG emissions reduction in the reporting period reached 6.79 million ton CO2eq. The Board of Directors assesses the performance of GHG emission control through periodic reports to the authorities and the achievement of KPIs for HSSE Function in holding company, sub-holding companies, and subsidiaries
