Supporting SDGs No 13, Pertamina Renewable Diesel Products Shows Pertamina's Global Decarbonization Implementation

Jakarta, October 28, 2022 - Pertamina's flagship green fuel product, Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) or Green Diesel D100, is increasingly recognized worldwide. This product is a more environmentally friendly substitute for diesel fuel that can be used directly as vehicle fuel or produce green electricity through generators. The green fuel product made by the Green Refinery Cilacap has received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) certificate. Through ISCC certification, Pertamina's HVO Products has been acknowledged to reduce carbon emissions from general fuels by up to 65-70%, earning them worthy of the title "green products."

The HVO product with the branding name Pertamina Renewable Diesel (Pertamina RD) was previously launched and used to support the 2021 Jakarta E-Prix. The Cilacap Green Refinery's production capacity to produce Green Diesel Products is 3,000 barrels per day with vegetable raw materials in the form of Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO). The product has been marketed and accepted by the European market, especially Germany and France.

General Manager of Cilacap Refinery - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, Edy January Utama, said Pertamina continues to strengthen the clean energy transition following Pertamina's commitment to prioritize Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) principles in all business lines. Pertamina continues to innovate by reducing emissions from its production equipment and producing low-emission products based on new and renewable energy. It follows Pertamina's commitment to decarbonizing its business to create a better environment. Pertamina has also launched a Net Zero Emission Roadmap to ensure a gradual commitment to decarbonization efforts until the net zero emission target is achieved in 2060. The Net Zero Emission Roadmap is one concrete proof of Pertamina's commitment to support SDG or Sustainable Development Goal no. 13 regarding climate change management.

"Pertamina is committed to increasing the capacity and capability of the Green Refinery Cilacap. It is currently only 2,500 - 3,000 barrels per day to 6,000 barrels per day with products including Green Diesel, Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and Bionaphta," he said when receiving a media visit at the Pertamina International Refinery Green Refinery location. Cilacap, Thursday (27/10).

He added that the increase in green energy capacity follows the world market demand for clean energy products and shows Pertamina's seriousness for an aggressive strategy in Green Business in its net zero emissions roadmap. "The flexibility of green energy raw materials will also be further improved. Thus, it does not only process CPO-based but can also process other materials such as Used Cooking Oil (UCO) or used cooking oil into green energy," he added.

Along with increasing product type flexibility, the Cilacap green refinery is also expected to improve its capacity to process second-generation renewable feedstock, such as used cooking oil or similar materials. Thus, increasing its ability to reduce product emissions by up to 85–90% when compared to fossil fuels.

In collecting used cooking oil, the potential for implementing the circular economy concept that focuses on improving the community's economy will also be studied so that the existence of a Green Refinery can provide positive benefits for the community in addition to more environmentally friendly energy.**
