Restaurants Use Subsidized LPG, Pertamina Conducts Inspections with Hiswana Migas and the Government

Karanganyar, July 29, 2022 – To ensure that 3 kg subsidized LPG usage is right on target, or for the lower class and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Central Java with the Karanganyar Regency Government, Karanganyar Police, and Hiswana Migas DPC Surakarta conducted a surprise inspection in several businesses. The inspection was carried out on July 27, 2022, in Karangpandan, Ngargoyoso, and Tawangmangu sub-districts.

The inspection team visited six restaurants and found that three restaurants still use 3 Kg LPG with an average of four to six Kg LPG cylinders per restaurant.

The Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR of Pertamina Patra Niaga Central Java Region, Brasto Galih Nugroho, revealed that the subsidized LPG use was not targeted enough,  consuming the district quota used for the lower class households and micro-enterprises in Karanganyar.

“Through the inspections, Pertamina exchanged each 3 kg subsidized LPG cylinder for one non-subsidized 5.5 kg bright gas. Thanks to this inspection, the Government and Pertamina were able to save the subsidy quota for underprivileged households and micro-enterprises as many as 14 of the 3 kg LPG cylinders,” Brasto said.

According to the Presidential Regulation No. 104 of 2007 and Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources no. 26 of 2009 concerning the 3 Kg LPG supply and distribution, the 3 kg subsidized LPG is only used for micro businesses, not small, medium, and large businesses.

“It is clearly stated in the regulation the classification of people or businesses that has the right to use 3 kg LPG. Pertamina and the local government always urge the public to use subsidized LPG in accordance with the provisions and designations. If they are capable, do not use the 3 kg LPG, which is rightful for the lower class," Brasto said.

He added that Pertamina had provided non-subsidized LPG such as bright gas 5.5 Kg and 12 Kg for the middle and upper class.

As a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), Pertamina was given an assignment by the government to distribute the 3 kg subsidized LPG. Pertamina, with the local government and security forces are trying its best to supervise the 3 kg subsidized LPG distribution.

"We from Pertamina also invite the public to monitor the subsidized LPG distribution. Thus, the subsidized LPG is used by the entitled ones," Brasto concluded.
