Pertamina's Upstream Subholding Continues to Innovate to Improve Quality and Production

Jakarta, October 11, 2022 - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, as Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, is always committed to improving quality, one of which is through innovation implementation. With a routine program called the Continuous Improvement Program, employees can contribute to creating innovations that aim to increase production, quality, or company value.

Several innovations have been created, such as from Pertamina EP Limau Field employees, which included Pertamina's Sumatera Region Subholding Upstream. Innovations are carried out through the new potential identification and development method application of LQR (Low-Quality Reservoir), as well as production acceleration, namely by screening the subsurface potential. These innovations use a petrophysical analysis approach and accelerated production facilities that utilize ex-used production tanks and separator recollection from other idle collection stations. The innovations carried out in the Limau Field can unlock the untapped potential of the idle structure. Therefore, it can produce from 0 BOPD to 270 BOPD.

Furthermore, innovation with the SUPARMAN method application from Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Southeast Sumatera (PHE OSES) is included in Pertamina's Zone 6 Java Region Subholding Upstream. This innovation is carried out by using an accurate subsurface integration analysis method in making SOI (Simulation Opportunity Index) maps, which are a combination of PPI (Pressure Potential Index), OFI (Oil Flow Index), MOI (Movable Oil Index) and integrated with an analytical approach in distribution facies and well spacing analysis. This method can increase oil production by 3078 BOPD and proven reserves by 2337 MBO in Krisna Field, PHE OSES Zone 6.

Lastly, the Cement Slurry Merah Putih innovation is an ongoing research outcome in drilling cement with a special formulation for cementing jobs designed to cover or block shallow gas zones and control well pressure, where this product is a lightweight gas-tight cement slurry. This innovation is proven to increase the competitive advantage of PT Elnusa Tbk.

These three innovations have also won the Dharma Karya Energy and Mineral Resources awards in the Muda category from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The award was given in the commemoration of the 77th Mining and Energy Anniversary at the secretariat office of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, (4/10).

On the award night, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, expressed his appreciation for the contribution made to national development, especially in the ESDM sector. "Hopefully, every ESDM person can improve performance through innovation quickly, carefully, and productively. Therefore, the ESDM sector can continue to contribute to economic growth," he said.

Met separately, Oto Gurnita, Director of Human Resources & Business Support of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, expressed his pride and hope. “Congratulations and success to the three Pertamina Upstream Subholding Teams who won the Dharma Karya Energy and Mineral Resources Award this year. This achievement is a testament to Pertamina's Upstream Subholding officers' hard work, who continue to innovate and make an absolute contribution to the ESDM sector. Hopefully, in the future, more teams will follow the three Dharma Karya Energi winning teams' success this year by continuing to actively carry out improvement and innovation programs that have a big impact on national development," he said.**
