Pertamina's Commitment to Run with the Minister of SOE Toward a World Giant Company

April 19, 2022 - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), Erick Thohir, appreciates PT Pertamina (Persero)'s move to transform into a more aggressive business entity and become an engine that drives the Indonesian economy. President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, also emphasized her commitment in bringing Pertamina to become a world-class giant company ready to "run" with the Ministry of SOE.

Erick said that the transformation of business entities must be supported by the Human Resources (HR) transformation. For this reason, Erick appreciates the corporate culture at Pertamina, where management and employees collaborate to build a healthy and strong company.

“Today, we can gather with the Pertamina labor union community, directors, and commissioners, and that is important if we want to build a good company. That is why we need support," Erick said when meeting Pertamina officers at the 'Pertamina Talks with Minister of SOE Erick Thohir' at the Grha Pertamina Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (18/4/2022).

He also supports Pertamina's efforts to transform its business entities. Pertamina, a company engaged in the oil and gas sector, is now venturing into the new and renewable energy sector and even into the health sector.

“Pertamina, as an integrator of the national economy, has started to engage in renewable energy, health, or other things that can be an innovation for Indonesia in the future. I order that Pertamina's human resources must continue to upskill and not be afraid to face challenges," said Erick.

Erick also appreciated Pertamina's business transformation by calling Pertamina an integrator of Indonesia's economic growth. "This is why we need Pertamina's transformation because as an integrator, Pertamina will play on all lines. This is what we encourage," said Erick.

Supporting the statement of the Minister of SOE, President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati emphasized her commitment in bringing Pertamina to be an Indonesian economy engine. She also said that she is ready to exert maximum efforts for Pertamina to become a world giant company.

“Indeed, this is an encouragement for us to do the best for this country and push our limits. Because I have said on several occasions that the Minister always invites me to run, I always wear these (sports shoes). Therefore, we must always be ready,” said Nicke.

Nicke said that Pertamina had undergone a restructuration to maximize the company's performance. The restructuring effort is inseparable from the role of the Minister of SOE.

"We have restructured. How the Minister asked to run, and how did the Minister then act as a father," said Nicke.

"If we do not restructure our business, restructure our organization, then the companies that have been contributing to this country will disappear," added Nicke, included in the list of the 100 most influential women in the world according to Forbes 2021.

Nicke also said that Pertamina had carried out a business transformation in the energy transition. One of them is the 'Langit Biru' program, which is an idea to invite and educate the public to choose fuel according to vehicle needs and efforts to reduce vehicle exhaust emissions impact so that air quality is better. The program initiated by Pertamina was completed before the set target time.

"This is extraordinary Pertamina officers. When given a challenge, they run faster," she said.

She added that Pertamina had also begun to enter the business in the electric vehicles (EV) field, in which many countries had switched to this business. Nicke said Pertamina's decision to enter the EV business was supported by the Minister of SOE by establishing an EV business ecosystem in which Pertamina was included.

“Thus, we finally got into the EV ecosystem business. Because in this transition period, we can later play a role as part of the EV business. That is why I said then, we were asked to run, but we were also helped. Therefore, we can run safely, and this company will grow further," explained Nicke.**
