Pertamina Offers Sobat Bumi Scholarship 2024 for Students from Sumatra to Papua

Jakarta, February 12, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) has initiated a scholarship program for undergraduate (S1) and vocational (D3/D4) students, namely the Sobat Bumi Scholarship. This scholarship provides various benefits to recipients, from educational assistance, living expenses support, capacity building related to community empowerment, environmental conservation, renewable energy, and networking with students from all over Indonesia.

Since 2011, Pertamina has provided scholarships through the Sobat Bumi Scholarship to 3,813 outstanding students across Indonesia. From the pandemic until last year, the number of recipients has continued to increase, with 285 students in 2020, 381 in 2021, 420 in 2022, and 465 in 2023.

Vice President of CSR & SMEPP of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, stated that the Sobat Bumi Scholarship is one of Pertamina's Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental (TJSL) programs to demonstrates their commitment to the nation's educational progress.

"The Sobat Bumi Scholarship is part of our sustainable education program and our appreciation for outstanding students active in community and environmental activities. Through this scholarship, we nurture them in line with Pertamina's spirit, energizing community. Thus, they not only receive financial assistance but also gain direct experience in the community alongside Pertamina," said Fajriyah.

Last year, scholarship recipients carried out 76 Sobat Bumi Actions, including planting a total of 12,412 mangrove trees, 800 rain trees, 160 banyan trees, 100 frangipani trees, and 155 other carbon-absorbing trees, as well as collecting 3.9 tons of waste. Additionally, they were encouraged to support Pertamina's programs, namely Independent Energy Villages (DEB) and Independent Energy Schools (SEB). Around 42 scholarship recipients were involved in DEB activity, and 141 were in SEB activity alongside Pertamina officers.

Not only did they participate in activites, but they also acted as catalysts for renewable energy in villages by generating 24 DEB embryos. Each year, they are also required to showcase the cultural heritage of their respective regions through dance, song, and other forms of art.

President Director of Pertamina Foundation, Agus Mashud S. Asngari, stated that students' enthusiasm for the Sobat Bumi Scholarship is very high. Therefore, Agus encourages students to register as soon as possible and prepare themselves as best as they can because the competition is fierce.

"The enthusiasm for the Sobat Bumi Scholarship never diminishes each year. Last year, the number of applicants even reached 10,121 students. They will undergo a rigorous selection process through various stages, including ranking methods, starting from administration, interviews, and focus group discussions. The Sobat Bumi Scholarship is a program that supports the government, especially in contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 4 (Quality Education).

Registration for the Sobat Bumi Scholarship is open until February 24, 2024, through the pertaminafoundation.org website. The requirements are as follows:

  1. Students from partner universities of the Sobat Bumi Scholarship (38 universities);
  2. Active students from semester 2 to semester 6;
  3. Last GPA >/3.00;
  4. Not currently receiving scholarships for the period of January-December 2024;
  5. English language certification is an added value;
  6. Write an essay on the theme "My Contribution to Achieving Net Zero Emission";
  7. Currently actively participating in community or environmental organizations.
