Pertamina NRE, Pertamina Patra Niaga, and Electrum Sign Cooperation Agreement to Develop Molis’ Battery Packs

Bekasi, June 26, 2023 Collaborating with Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN) and Electrum, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) signed a joint development agreement for electric two-wheeler vehicle battery packs. The agreement was conducted on Friday, June 23, simultaneously with the Electrum's electric motor (Molis) factory groundbreaking ceremony at GIIC Cikarang, Bekasi.

The signing was done by Fadli Rahman, Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Pertamina NRE; Riva Siahaan, Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga; and Patrick Adhiatmadja, Managing Director of Electrum. This collaboration is a continuation of the main cooperation agreement on the electric vehicle ecosystem signed between PNRE and Electrum at the G20 Bali Summit in 2022.

"Indonesia has great potential and opportunities to become a leader in the electric vehicle battery industry. Collaborations like this will accelerate electric vehicle ecosystem formation. Once the electric vehicle ecosystem is established and solid, the energy transition will be realized more quickly," said Fadli in his speech.

Through this collaboration, Pertamina NRE, PPN, and Electrum will complete battery production supply chain in Indonesia and support the battery cell products downstream. According to Patrick, Electrum could produce hundreds of thousands of Molis yearly. With the electric vehicle ecosystem realization, the supporting facilities availability, and well-organized infrastructure, it will become easier for people to transition to electric vehicles.

"We will establish an assembly line with a capacity of up to 250,000 units per year. If all the factories are built, it will be sufficient for four assembly lines, producing approximately one million units," he explained.

In the downstream, Pertamina possesses strength in its retail distribution network, including petrol stations managed by Pertamina Patra Niaga, which amount to more than 5,000 locations throughout Indonesia. Currently, battery swapping services for Molis are already available at several Pertamina petrol stations, and it will expand to other petrol stations.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that Pertamina is committed to accelerating the provision of electric vehicle infrastructure in Indonesia to drive the energy transition towards clean energy.

"Pertamina fully supports the government's program to accelerate the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia as part of the efforts to achieve the NZE 2060 target," said Fadjar.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
