Pertamina NRE 2021 Operational Performance Exceeds Target

Jakarta, February 21, 2022 – Pertamina NRE posted good operational performance during 2021. The electricity production during 2021 has reached 4,686 GWh or 4 percent above the target.

The achievement of electricity production is also higher than last year, which reached 4,637 GWh. The positive operational performance was also demonstrated by the increase in the installed capacity of new and renewable energy (EBT) power plants from 681 MW to 687.2 MW. Moreover, Pertamina NRE reduced the cost per unit to USD 4.64/MWh or 5 percent lower than the target.

This positive performance in operational aspects was supported by the brilliant performance of HSSE, where the total working hours were recorded at 50,653,894 hours without lost work hours, accidents, or fires. Pertamina NRE's subsidiary, Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), also recorded another achievement in obtaining Gold PROPER through the Kamojang work area for the 11th time. Not only that, but Jawa Satu Power (JSP) was also awarded the Best PMA and PMDN Company 2021 from the West Java Provincial Government.

"We appreciate the solid work of all Pertamina NRE officers, including PGE and JSP, which are part of the Pertamina NRE big family. Without solid cooperation, this positive performance will not be achieved. In 2022, we set a fairly aggressive target, so we must maintain and improve this solid cooperation. On the other hand, strict targets do not make us forget to apply HSSE Excellence," said the CEO of Pertamina NRE Dannif Danusaputro.

In 2022, Pertamina NRE targets an installed capacity of 2.9 GW, which is contributed from gas to power of around 1,800 MW, NRE of 971 MW, and EV and a battery of 96.2 MWh. Electricity production is targeted to reach approximately 7,100 GWh. Several programs are planned to be completed by 2022 to meet this target. Namely, the commercial operation date (COD) of the Java-1 PLTGU with a capacity of 1,760 MW and Pertamina's internal PLTS with the potential to reach more than 280 MW. In 2022, Pertamina NRE's strategic mandate is to realize the Unlock Value program at PGE. With the unlock value, Pertamina NRE hopes that PGE, as a subsidiary, will get alternative financing for the development of geothermal projects in the future.

"With the unlock value, Pertamina NRE hopes that PGE will get many benefits, such as financing for geothermal projects developments as well as strengthening the role of good corporate governance (GCG) as a form of Pertamina NRE's commitment to implement environmental, social, and governance (ESG) in business practices,” added Dannif.

Pertamina NRE is also developing future businesses in the energy sector, such as hydrogen, EV, batteries. Green hydrogen is currently being developed as a pilot project in the Ulubelu geothermal working area. As for EVs and batteries, Pertamina NRE with Pertamina Patra Niaga has signed a memorandum of understanding with Gojek and Grab to accelerate EV ecosystem developments.

Furthermore, to support the target of reducing carbon emissions by 2030, Pertamina NRE also plans to develop a natural-based solution, and a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Pertamina and Perhutani. In its business scheme, Pertamina NRE will manage carbon sequestration through trees planted on concessions managed by Perhutani. A green industrial area where Pertamina NRE will provide environmentally friendly energy in industrial areas is another business that is being developed to support carbon emission reduction. For the development of this business, Pertamina has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jababeka.**
