Pertamina Enriches Biodiversity by Planting 1000 Mangroves in Margomulyo

Balikpapan, October 13, 2022 - Central Pertamina Patra Niaga through Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Kalimantan planted 1000 mangrove seedlings in the Margomulyo Mangrove Forest Conservation area, West Balikpapan, last Thursday (6/10).

Since 2016, Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Kalimantan has planted 6000 mangroves to improve the Margomulyo area as mangrove conservation and an environmental education tourism destination. The mangrove planting activity is Pertamina's support for the Coaltrans Asia 2022 agreement held in Bali last September.

The mangrove planting was also attended by the Head of Control, Pollution, Environmental Damage (PPKLH) of the Balikpapan City Environmental Service Irma Nur Mayanti, Plt Lurah Margo Mulyo Muhammad Rijal, Acting Manager of CSR C&T Pertamina Patra Niaga Pusat Joevan, Sales Area Manager Industry VI Kalimantan Regional Dimas Rusli and Regional Manager of Comrel & CSR Kalimantan Susanto August Satria

Joevan said that the mangrove planting is Pertamina's commitment to enriching biodiversity in the Margomulyo Mangrove Conservation area. "Today's mangrove planting in Balikpapan City, precisely at the Margomulyo Mangrove Conservation, is part of the Coaltrans Asia 2022 series of events implemented in Bali, hopefully with planting 1000 mangrove seedlings it can develop and grow well.”

Plt Lurah Margo Mulyo appreciated Pertamina for its contribution to mangrove conservation in Margomulyo, "Alhamdulillah, I appreciate Pertamina's contribution through its CSR program to preserve mangroves in the Mangrove Conservation Area. Hopefully, Pertamina will continue to contribute positively to the conservation area. Margo Mulyo mangroves," Muhammad Rijal said.

In his remarks, the Head of Control, Pollution, Environmental Damage (PPKLH) of the Balikpapan City Environmental Service appreciated Pertamina's contribution to maintaining the Margomulyo Conservation area. According to Irma, mangrove forests have a significant role in maintaining environmental conditions from abrasion and enriching the surrounding ecosystem.

Irma added, specifically for the Margomulyo area, mangrove trees are a natural ecosystem for bekantan monkey, which is Kalimantan's endemic animal.

DLH Balikpapan City hopes that Pertamina's support and assistance can further increase public interest in visiting Margomulyo and awareness of the importance of maintaining the mangrove ecosystem. Pertamina not only contributes to mangrove planting but also provides CSR assistance for educational houses construction to support tourist destination areas," Irma said.
