Kasim Refinery Achieve the First Gold Proper for Eastern Indonesia

Sorong, December 30, 2021 - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Kasim Refinery for the first time won an award for the 2021 Gold Performance Rating Program in Environmental Management (Proper), Oil and Gas Sub Sector Processing Unit (Migas UP) organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

The award was received by the Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Djoko Priyono, witnessed by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Ma'ruf Amin and the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Siti Nurbaya Bakar at the Proper Environmental Award event which took place at the Vice President's Palace, Jakarta on Tuesday (28/12).

In her speech, the Minister of KLHK gave her appreciation to the companies that won the Gold Proper, which this year reached 47 companies, as a proof of companies' compliance evaluation in environmental and social management.

General Manager of PT KPI RU Kasim, Samsudin, conveyed that the Klayas Mandiri (Swontai) social innovation program that had been implemented, had encouraged the independence of the Klayas Village residents through the Clean and Healthy Klayas activities which focused on providing access to clean water and a floating clinic, Klayas Berdikari focused on processing sago, sago mushrooms, as well as a people's market, and Klayas Cinta Budaya which focuses on basic education and preserving the culture of the Mooi Tribe in Papua.

“This achievement is one of the parameters for the company's compliance to manage the environment beyond what is required and empower the community sustainably. Through Proper, we also get an overview of measurable and objective environmental management performance assessments, in line with the company's commitment to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company's business, which is in accordance with the implementation of ESG and the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs)," he explained.

The company's involvement in supporting the government's efforts to break the chain of transmission of the Covid-19 virus also received a special assessment in this year's Proper, where the company has played an active role through vaccination activities in the internal and external scope, carried out independently or in collaboration with other parties.

This year's PROPER assessment has the theme "PROPER: Social Innovation for Advanced Indonesia" which was participated by 2,583 companies in Indonesia which were evaluated into several rating categories namely Gold, Green, Blue, Red, and Black Ranks by recording as many as 697 eco-innovations generated by companies and able to save a budget of IDR 102.409 Trillion.**
