ESC-B20 Task Force Ready to Guard Three Recommendations at the G20 Summit

Jakarta, November 9, 2022 - Ahead of the Government 20 Summit (KTT-G20), the Energy, Sustainability and Climate Business 20 Task Force (TF ESC-B20) stated they are ready to guard three recommendations that had been through intensive discussion by 152 participants from 25 representative countries.

The three final recommendations from TF ESC-B20 are to increase global cooperation through three major agendas. First, accelerate the transition to sustainable energy utilization by reducing energy's carbon intensity. Second, ensuring a just and affordable transition, and third, increasing consumers' access and ability to consume clean and modern energy.

The resulting recommendations are answers to three main issues of the energy transition. Namely: first, technology development to increase capacity building in various countries. Second, increasing the value that will attract investment and financing access through green financing schemes. Third, develop partnerships and collaborations, especially for MSMEs, which are economic growth supporters in developing countries.

"TF ESC-B20 is one of the most enthusiastic Task Forces in B20. We received hundreds of comments and inputs until three final recommendations were formulated," said Nicke Widyawati, Chair of TF ESC-B20.

According to Nicke, in carrying out its duties, TF ESC-B20 ensures that the three recommendations prepared follows Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets. Especially those related to the following objectives: No Poverty (1), Good Health & Well-Being ( 3), Affordable & Clean Energy (7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (8), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (9), Sustainable Cities & Communities (11), Climate Action (13), Life Below Water (14) Partnership for The Goals (17).

Nicke said that the TF ESC-B20 assessed that the business world played a significant role in realizing the energy transition, providing input to the G20 member countries' Government, as well as becoming a catalyst that will accelerate the energy transition through concrete business actions.

As the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke also encourages the Pertamina group to be actively involved in various energy transition programs. Several collaborations have been carried out by the Pertamina Group with global companies, particularly related to decarbonization and low-emission projects development.

"Pertamina, as the largest energy SOE in Indonesia, has shown its contribution in supporting the Government's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as stated in the Paris Agreement, which in 2021 has succeeded in reducing 29% of carbon emissions from its business activities from upstream to downstream. With this achievement, in the ESG aspect in 2022, Pertamina is ranked 2nd globally in the Integrated Oil & Gas company sector," conveyed Nicke.**
