Consistent in Environmentally Friendly Oil and Gas Operations, PHI Successfully Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Jakarta, September 3, 2021 – PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia as the Pertamina Upstream Subholding Kalimantan Region successfully passed Semester II of 2021 with good performance in various aspects. One of which is by managing environmentally friendly oil and gas operations by successfully reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In 2020, PHI succeeded in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2,468,578 tons of CO2.

Sr. HSSE Manager Kalimantan Region, Benyamin Argubie, stated that PHI is aware of the importance of safe and environmentally friendly operations for the Company and all stakeholders, especially those in the Kalimantan region. According to him, PHI and all of the Company's subsidiary has absolute commitments on the environmental impact from the disposal of greenhouse gas emissions from the Company's operations.

"PHI not only continues to reduce environmental impacts in the Kalimantan region but also contributes to supporting government policies and programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of 29% by 2030 through the use of New and Renewable Energy (NRE)," said Benyamin.

In the Semester II of 2021, PHI has recorded a 13% greenhouse gas emissions reduction compared to the same period in 2020. The initiatives carried out by PHI are in line with several activities/sectors promoted by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

First, related to transportation activities by saving aviation turbine (AVTUR) fuel usage. It is by optimizing helicopter flights.

Second, related to the building sector. Through one of its subsidiaries, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, PHI has obtained a Green Building Certificate for the Mahakam Training Center (MTC) building. It was awarded by Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) on July 22, 2021. This MTC building can reduce the emission load by 7.45x10-8 Tons of CO2 eq.

Third, related to diesel fuel usage. In several areas of its operations, PHI has substituted energy sources of diesel fuel in its power generation facilities. Previously, it used diesel generators for electricity from PLN. In addition to that, the efficiency of solar power plant facilities is done by using natural gas flow.

PHI's program initiatives and innovations will be continued sustainably as a form of PHI's commitment to carry out safe and environmentally friendly oil and gas operations and produce the energy needed to support Indonesia's development.
