Collaborating with doctorSHARE, PIS Presents Floating Hospital Services for Papua

Jakarta, November 20, 2023 - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) signed a commitment to support the Dokter Peduli Foundation (doctorSHARE) to provide assistance through a floating hospital medical services in West Papua.

This collaboration is part of the "BerSEAnergi untuk Laut" program by PIS, a corporate social and environmental responsibility initiative aimed at improving the welfare of coastal communities and supporting marine conservation.

The assistance agreement was signed by the CEO of PIS, Yoki Firnandi, and the Managing Director of doctorSHARE, Tutuk Utomo Nuradhy. The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, as an Advisor to doctorSHARE.

PIS' support involves operational support for the Nusa Waluya II Floating Hospital Service (RSA), owned by doctorSHARE in Sorong, West Papua, starting this December. This service, equivalent to a Type C land-based hospital, includes general medical care, specialized clinics, obstetrics, and pharmacy services, as well as other supporting facilities such as medical supplies, ambulances, and laboratories.

"As a company operating in the maritime sector, PIS acknowledges that one of the challenges in providing healthcare in the world's largest maritime nation is accessibility, especially for coastal and island communities. The presence of a floating hospital is one of the solutions, and this synergy represents PIS' tangible commitment to improving the coastal communities’ welfare," stated Yoki on Sunday (19/11).

Tutuk Utomo Nuradhy, Managing Director of doctorSHARE, explained the crucial need for this assistance among the communities in Sorong, particularly in the Seget District and surrounding areas, where access to the nearest Regional General Hospital (RSUD) is difficult and expensive.

"The Nusa Waluya II RSA is planned to operate for 45 days in Papua, aiming to serve between 5000-7000 patients, including minor and major surgeries."

Therefore, PIS and doctorSHARE are inviting medical volunteers to assist in providing healthcare services at the Nusa Waluya II RSA during this service period. Volunteer registration opens starting Monday (20/11).

Yasonna Laoly, Minister of Law and Human Rights and Advisor to doctorSHARE, appreciated the assistance provided by PIS to Nusa Waluya II RSA, which will facilitate healthcare facilities in West Papua in December.

"The support from caring donors can provide healthcare accessibility, especially for our communities in remote areas and secluded islands. Currently, doctorSHARE has extended medical services to over 350,000 individuals and is expected to grow," stated Yasonna.

Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health, added that the efforts carried out by doctorSHARE are extraordinary, where medical professionals and supporting parties work wholeheartedly to assist the government in delivering healthcare services, ranging from medical operations to maternal and child health interventions and establishing small hospitals in areas facing accessibility challenges.

"I have listened to doctorSHARE's needs, firstly the requirement for medical equipment and secondly the operational needs, including ship fuel. Thank you to all parties who have assisted," said Budi.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communications of PT Pertamina (Persero), mentioned that Pertamina fully supports its subsidiary's role in providing healthcare services to the public, including collaborating with doctorSHARE for the Floating Hospital in West Papua.
