Pertamina Supports Clean Energy and Electric Vehicle Acceleration in Indonesia by Building a Fast Charging Public Electric Charging Station at Soetta Airport

Jakarta, April 22, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to encourage clean energy and accelerate the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia by developing a Fast Charging Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) at strategic points.

After the Fatmawati, South Jakarta, SPKLU inauguration in December 2020, the development of the future energy facility will continue. One of them is Fast Charging SPKLU at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta), Tangerang Banten, in synergy with Grab Indonesia as an application-based transportation company.

President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, said that the development of electric vehicle infrastructure is Pertamina's support for Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019. It is in regard to the Acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Program as well as Pertamina's efforts to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in Indonesia.

"Pertamina aims of becoming a World Class Energy Company by gradually preparing an energy transition towards renewable energy. One of which is in the electric vehicle battery energy sector through the formation of a joint venture company Indonesia Batterai Corporation (IBC). Pertamina is also preparing the infrastructure for charging electric vehicle batteries on its downstream side including the development of the SPKLU,"

The collaboration in developing the Fast Charging SPKLU business in the Soekarno Hatta Airport area is strategic because it is considered an area with high mobility and traffic. Pertamina believes that the collaboration with Grab Indonesia, which is committed to growing the number of its electric vehicle fleets, would accelerate the battery-based electric motor vehicle program in Indonesia.

President of Grab Indonesia, Ridzki Kramadibrata, explained that Grab believes reducing carbon footprint and environmental impact is also in line with creating economic opportunities for local communities.

"We are constantly looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and increase our environmental sustainability initiatives through various partnerships," he said at the launch event of Grab's #LangkahHijau Campaign, which coincided with Earth Day (22/4).

Nicke added that Pertamina had developed 6 (six) locations for the Fast Charging-type SPKLU, spread over petrol stations and other strategic locations in the provinces of DKI Jakarta and Banten. SPKLU operation will be self-service and cashless while prioritizing easy filling for vehicle owners.

According to Nicke, Pertamina demonstrates its contribution to implementing the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 7, to ensure that everybody has access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy.

"We expects that this well-initiated collaboration can run smoothly and in the future it will continue increase to make the best contribution for the Indonesian people and the environment," concluded Nicke. **
