Increasing ESG Commitment, Pertamina Continues to Strengthen CSR Programs in 4 Pillars

Jakarta, June 17, 2021 - PT Pertamina (Persero) not only recorded a positive performance with a net profit in 2020. Pertamina Group also continues to strengthen the four pillars of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program throughout the Covid-19 pandemic by implementing numerous social innovations and expanding the reach of program beneficiaries.

Pertamina is committed to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by applying environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives, specifically, points 3, 4, 7, and 8. Namely to ensure a healthy life and support prosperity, ensuring inclusive and quality education, ensuring access to affordable energy, and supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Acting Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations of Pertamina, Fajriyah Usman, explained that social innovation through Pertamina's TJSL program throughout 2020 was spread in several activities. It includes Pertamina Sehat, Pertamina Green, Pertamina Berdikari, Pertamina Smart and Creating Shared Values ​​(CSV). The program was presented at the General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS), which took place earlier this week (14/6) to the Government as a Shareholder.

For Pertamina Sehat, Pertamina has had an impact on more than 900 beneficiaries. In addition, thousands of toddlers and pregnant women are monitored for their health and growth, thousands of people are empowered to work opportunities for people with disabilities (Disabled).

"The Pertamina Sehat program has also provided job opportunities for 26 people with disabilities with an entrepreneurial turnover of around IDR 165 million per year while saving medical expenses of IDR 15 million per year," said Fajriyah.

Fajriyah added that Pertamina Hijau aims to save the environment. Pertamina Group has preserved thousands of flora and fauna, new sedimentation and protecting the land from fires, forest utilization, and planting mangrove trees.

"For the environment, Pertamina can reduce carbon absorption by 362,876 kg of CO2 by providing an economic impact with a group income per year of IDR 1.2 billion from thousands of beneficiaries," she added.

As for the Pertamina Berdikari program, where the community is encouraged to produce energy independently, she continued, Pertamina Group has reduced emissions. Pertamina is also channeling methane gas, utilizing sewage into renewable energy, and reducing waste accumulation, land use, using used cooking oil into electrical energy. The TJSL program for the community (regional) empowerment can provide economic impacts to 6,929 beneficiaries worth almost IDR 1 billion per year.

Another TJSL program is Pertamina Cerdas. Pertamina's efforts to assist the Government in improving the quality of human resources have benefited 3,295 students. The Pertamina Cerdas program has also provided learning for children with special needs. It has also increased public understanding in the field of health and the environment.

"Through Pertamina Cerdas, it has resulted in saving tens of millions of education costs per year," she explained.

From Creating Shared Value or activities that aim to increase the company's competitive value through social and economic activities, Pertamina has developed the Enduro Student Program (ESP) to provide education, training, and internships for SMK graduates to become independent young entrepreneurs. There are a total of 113 beneficiaries across 64 active workshop outlets and were able to generate CSV of IDR1 billion through the sale of Pertamina lubricant bottles and the company's repair service revenue.

Through the four pillars of the TJSL program, Fajriyah said, Pertamina won more than 80 gold and green proper, and 3 of them were international awards and 1 MURI record.
