Pertamina EP Discovers Oil and Gas in Tiung Biru, Indonesia First Exploration in 2012

01 Februari 2012 14:02 WIB

Jakarta - Pertamina EP has discovered oil and gas reserve at Tiung Biru as the result of exploration in the area. The oil reserve amounts to 2,546 barrel of oil per day (BOPD) and gas reserve 2.75 million metric standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). This success is the first exploration finding in Indonesia in 2012.

This finding of oil and gas was verified through drill stem test (UKL)-1B at Tiung Biru (TBR)-2ST well with the interval of 2,174 to 2,179 meter and 2,169 to 2,172 meter at Kujung Formation with 48/64 inch pinch. The drill stem test was one of six tests approved by BPMIGAS.

Pertamina EP President Director Syamsu Alam stressed that this achievement would support fulfillment of Indonesia's oil and gas finding target.

"We are thankful to find this rather large reserve of oil and gas at Tiung Biru. Hopefully this finding will rise our confidence in our oil and gas exploration in Indonesia," Syamsu said.

The Tiung Baru structure is located around 15 km southeast of Cepu, Central Java, or around 28 km southwest of Bojonegoro, East Java. The Tiung Biru Exploration Focus Area Project (PAFE) manages Tiung Biru structure. In term of structure, Tiung Biru structure is part of Jambaran's integral structure, which is managed by Mobil Cepu Ltd.

To raise Pertamina EP's oil production, Pertamina EP has accelerated the development of  Tiung Biru structure through Put on Production (POP) program from TBR-1ST well. It has set production target of 210 BOPD, which will be attained in the second quarter of 2012. Pertamina EP also has proposed for the TBR-2ST well to produce through POP program with production target of 1,000 BOPD.

The results of TBR-1ST exploration well drill, performed in 2009, have found the existence of oil, condensate and gas finding. Furthermore, to evaluate the existence of hydrocarbon in Tiung Biru structure, BPMIGAS has approved 2 appraisal wells, TBR-2ST and TBR-3.

The TBR-2ST is a deviated well, drilled in the north side of Tiung Biru structure. It was spud on 7 October 2011 to reach 2,206 mMD depth and found oil and gas.

The Tiung Biru PAFE Exploration activities aim to show the existence of hydrocarbon in Tiung Biru structure, which will be the foundation in Tiung Biru-Jambaran Unitization process between PT Pertamina EP and Mobil Cepu Ltd.

The successful oil layer test on Kijang Formation has proven that on top of gas reserve, the oil reserve found can also produce significant result.
