Surabaya - PT Pertamina (Persero) continues its effort for improving environmental preservation by Plant 1000 Trees activity at Surabaya Juanda International Airport area (17/2). On top of being part of Pertamina CSR program aiming to plant 100 million trees, the activity is Pertamina's form of support for the Ministry of Transportation's program to create Eco Airport at various airports in Indonesia, including Juanda Airport.
The planting activity will be symbolically performed at the Airport area by the President Director of Pertamina and Management of Angkasa Pura 1.
The tree planting program at the airport area is intended as an ecological program, whereby trees planted are to be maintained and are able to grow under protection in the restricted area or area not opened to public.
The main purpose of Plant 100 Million Trees program is to overcome greenhouse effect cause by carbon emission. Besides, the program also put effort to maintain the forest conservation, improve public welfare of people in the tree saving areas, as well as creating additional value through partnership with other parties.
The targeted partners in the 100 Million Trees program are the community groups in regions around Pertamina business operation areas; community groups in other areas, particularly tree saving regions; and business units involved in Pertamina's chain of business activities from upstream to downstream.
The program is in line with the specified roadmap, which set that until 2015 it is to involve 20,000 farmers, 100 partners, to absorb 400,000 workers, to increase income, to grow 10,000 ecopreneurs, to engage 150 schools and can absorb 311 million ton carbon. Throughout the program, various activities will be carried out to change mindset and behaviour through campaigns and environment awareness raising activities.
In overall, the program is a social culture movement. The tree planting activities in the Save 100 Million Trees program to improve public welfare will be supported by ecolabelling certification.
In 2012, the program Plant 100 Million Trees will contribute 2.2 million trees. So cumulatively, by the second year of the program (2012), there will be 4 million trees planted.
In 2011, the program was carried out in whole Indonesia and had successfully planted more than 400,000 trees in more than 400 hectares of land. It is hoped that the trees will produce more oxigen for life and absorb more carbon dioxide greenhouse gases.
On top of the program, Pertamina's other environmental programs in Surabaya are Mangrove Ecotourism in Wonorejo, Pertamina Partner Green Village in Perak Utara, distribution of 4,000 trees for public in Surabaya and vicinity, and planting of 1,500 agarwood trees in Tanjungwangi.
