Increasing Reliability of Supply, Pertamina Operates Fuel Transit Terminal Baubau

BAU BAU, February 10, 2012 - PT Pertamina (Persero) officially commenced the operation of Feul Terminal Transit Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi with a capacity of 100 000 kiloliters (KL).The  US$ 40 million investment is believed to increase the reliability of supply and reduce the cost of fuel distribution in the Sulawesi region.
 
Inauguration of the most advanced fuel transit terminal in Eastern Indonesia was conducted by the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Karen Agustiawan on February 10, 2012. Also present at the inauguration Pertamina's board of directors, the Governor of South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi Province Muspida ranks, along with the Mayor of Bau Bau along with  Muspida Baubau City Government, as well as the entire head of local government in the region of Southeast Sulawesi Province.

The development of Fuel Transit Terminal Bau Bau is intended to reduce costs at the port of Makassar demurrage  caused by the installation load that already exceeds the Makassar capacity. The Transit Terminal will serve as back loading activities to the Palopo Depot, Kolaka, Raha, and Kendari Depot that previously served by the Makassar  installation, as well as Kolonade Depot, Luwuk and Banggai Depot  that previously served by Bitung Depot. "By converting the Baubau Depot  to become Terminal Transit it is expected improving  the reliability of supply, and reduce the cost of fuel distribution to the region, especially South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi.  The efficiency of tanker loading costs to the East of sulawesi will have saved the distance of tanker supply up to 517 miles if the Kolaka, Palopo, Raha, Kendari, Kolondale and Luwuk Depot are supplied by the Bau Bau Transit Terminal rather than by the Bitung Depot or the Makassar Installation,” said Karen.  “The existence of Baubau Transit Terminal is also expected to serve as back-up for Makassar installation and Bitung Depot, as well as others Depot in East Nusa Tenggara region in case of critical conditions (emergency)."

Transit Terminal Fuel Baubau has tank capacity up to 100,000 kiloliters of fuel oil (KL) comprise of Solar and Premium type of gasoline and called for US$40million worth of investment.The  Transit Terminal is equipped with a fuel dock 35 000 DWT (dead weight tons) and 6,500 DWT for loading, unloading and bunkering.

The project commenced in December 10, 2008 and completed in June 2011 with a 1-year maintenance period and will expire on May 30, 2012. Acting as contractor activities Engineering, Procurement, and Construction  is PT Krakatau Engineering.

Transit Terminal Operation Baubau was accordance  with the determination of the company's to make contribution maintaining the national energy security through the strengthening of fuel supply and distribution infrastructure. Fuel Terminal Transit Baubau is Pertamina  ninth operating terminal, in addition to Teluk Kabung The Main Transit Terminal (TTU), Wayame TTU,  Sorong TT,  Bitung TT, Makasar TT, Kupang  TT, Kota Baru TT and Pulau Sambu TT.

In fact, for Pulau Sambu TT Pertamina soon will developed into Hyper Terminal with a capacity of 300,000 KL of fuel, as an action following the agreement of the maximizing the use of gasoline terminal in Pulau Sambu between Pertamina and Pertamina Energy Services Pte Ltd on 22 December 2011. This US$50 million worth project will be equipped with a maximum size  100.000 DWT of ship and was targeted to complete in 2013.

Meanwhile, the strengthening of fuel   transportation  to improve  fuel efficiency is realized with the shipment of 47 units Pertamina's own fleet  tankers from 2007 to 2015. Till now Pertamina has received 21 unit a new  tanker fleet  and this year will receive 12 more units.

Pertamina currently operating 173 tankers which consists of 153 oil tanker and 20 gas carrier vessel. Of the total number of vessels, 42 of which are own fleet tankers and 131 other vessels were chartered ship.
