Recycled Products Enliven Eco RunFest 2023 as a Form of Sustainable Living

Jakarta, November 26, 2023 - Not only hosting running events and music performances, Pertamina Eco RunFest 2023 also brings activities and several creations made using environmentally friendly recycled materials.

One of these is the ibukardus. Living up to its name, Nur Maliyanti, the creator of ibukardus, has successfully transformed cardboard into various children's toys.

"It all started in 2014 when Nur simply wanted to make toys for her eldest son. At that time, her son asked for a robot costume, and Nur brought to life an Iron Man costume from used cardboard," Nur explained.

As Nur frequently made various toys, overtime, many other parents became interested in Nur Maliyanti's cardboard creations. She often conducts workshops for children and parents in various cities. Some parents even intend to directly order toys made by Nur Maliyanti.

"Undoubtedly, this will develop children's motor skills, not just relying on gadgets. Additionally, it fosters interaction between children and parents," Nur said.

Apart from ibukardus, there is also Benih Bunbun, which utilizes paper waste to create educational souvenirs for the community.

"Beyond educating on how to utilize paper waste, we also encourage turning this waste into planting media," explained Ziva, the owner of Benih Bunbun from West Bandung.

According to her, most people know about planting only in soil, but now we can use paper waste. "Through Benih Bunbun, we can create and emphasize the importance of utilizing paper waste," Ziva added.

In the Communal Area, there is Setali as well, an organization focusing on decluttering and thrifting to support the sustainable fashion movement, aimed at safeguarding the environment from the dangers of fashion industry waste.

The initiative, pioneered by Andien, initially began as a foundation that eventually transformed into a social entrepreneurship venture in fashion and environmental sustainability.

"There are numerous efforts undertaken, one of which is upcycling (reprocessing unused clothes into new items)," wrote Andien on the Setali website.

As the second-largest contributor to global waste, the fast fashion industry prompts excessive fashion product utilization, resulting in accumulated fashion waste that poses significant environmental concerns.

As a public figure, Andien feels responsible for reducing fashion waste, particularly in Indonesia. Clothing becomes a crucial focus in every appearance as a public figure.

VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, explained that the Pertamina Eco RunFest 2023 raises the theme of sustainable living. Hence, throughout the event, the organizers strive to maximize eco-friendly materials utilization while minimizing and managing waste.

"To promote a Sustainable Living lifestyle, we have optimized eco-friendly educational activities. By minimizing plastic waste and implementing environmental management activities and education," Fadjar explained.

In the future, as an energy-based state-owned enterprise (SOE), Pertamina will continue to advocate for sustainable programs that support environmental management in line with governmental directives.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
