JAKARTA - Airlangga Hartanto, the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, accompanied by Brahmantya S. Poerwadi, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Persero, visited the Pertamina booth at the Sewindu PSN event on Wednesday (9/13) at Kasablanka Mall.

Pertamina Supports the Government in Achieving National Strategic Programs

Jakarta, September 14, 2023 - Pertamina remains committed to supporting the Indonesian government in achieving national strategic programs (PSN). In the past decade, the government has completed 161 national strategic projects (PSN) with 11 million workers employed, including PSN projects in the energy sector executed by Pertamina.

President Joko Widodo emphasized that PSN infrastructure’s presence has enhanced Indonesia's international competitiveness. It can be seen from Indonesia's rise in the IMD World Competitiveness Index, moving from the 44th rank to 34th in 2022.

"According to the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), our competitiveness in 2022, ranked 44th the previous year, has now risen to 34th. This 10-point increase is the highest in the world, and one of the reasons is the infrastructure projects we have completed," said Jokowi during the opening of the Decade of National Strategic Projects (PSN) event at Kota Kasablanka Mall, Jakarta, on Wednesday, (13/9/2023).

Nicke Widyawati, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), who also attended the event, emphasized that as a state-owned enterprise (SOE), Pertamina has been entrusted with executing PSN projects in the energy sector from upstream to downstream. "The national strategic projects undertaken by Pertamina aim to build national energy resilience, self-reliance, and sovereignty. Moreover, Pertamina's strategic projects bring benefits such as import reduction, emissions reduction, and boosting the national economy through domestic industry involvement, job creation, and domestic content utilization, providing significant advantages for Indonesia," Nicke stated.

Oki Muraza, SVP of Research & Technology Innovation (RTI) of Pertamina, explained that during the event, Pertamina showcased various PSN projects, including petrochemical processing, refinery revitalization, fuel and LPG tanks construction in Eastern Indonesia, the APBN Gas Network, and the Merah Putih Catalyst.

One of Pertamina's PSN programs is the Merah Putih Catalyst Plant, which is currently being developed in collaboration with PT Pupuk Kujang and PT Rekacipta Inovasi ITB. This catalyst serves a strategic purpose, strengthening energy resilience and reducing catalyst imports. The project also aims to fulfill the national catalyst demand, which can be utilized in green fuel production following the government's strategic program and policy through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR).

"This Merah Putih Catalyst has already been used in Pertamina's refineries for hydrotreating, a process that removes impurities such as sulfur. If this catalyst can be implemented in all refineries, we can achieve higher-quality fuel with very low sulfur content. In the future, we hope to produce catalysts for other industries, such as fertilizers or related industries," Oki explained.

The Decade of National Strategic Projects (Sewindu PSN) is a collaboration between the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, specifically the Committee for Accelerating Priority Infrastructure Provision (KPPIP), the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), and the Alumni Association of the University of Padjajaran.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
