Pertamina Strengthens Commitment to Energy Transition and Governance

Jakarta, December 14, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero) ensures that energy transition implementation will realize national energy resilience while driving carbon emission reduction achievement towards Net Zero Emission (NZE). To achieve this, Pertamina Group has undertaken various initiatives to decrease emissions and is open to global collaboration with all stakeholders to reach these targets.

It was stated by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, in her speech at the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2023 at the Westin Jakarta Hotel on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

"The energy transition acceleration in Indonesia is not just an effort to reduce carbon emissions but also to achieve energy resilience," said Nicke.

During the event, Pertamina Group received five awards. Pertamina, as the holding company, was honored with the Most Compliance Company in GCG Principle (GCG Award). Moreover, Nicke Widyawati, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), was also awarded The Most Influential Woman In Energy Transition.

Meanwhile, three other awards were received by three Pertamina Subholdings. These include the Best Value Creation in Geothermal Business Energy award, achieved by PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) Subholding Power & New Renewable Energy (PNRE); the Leading Company on Biofuel award received by PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Subholding Refining & Petrochemical (R&P); and the Most Leading Shipping Company in Global Business Expansion award received by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Subholding Integrated Marine Logistics (IML).

The awards were handed by the CEO of CT Corp, Chairul Tanjung, and received by Nicke Widyawati. This event serves as recognition for institutions, corporations, and inspirational individuals in economics and development.

Nicke expressed gratitude and appreciation for the awards granted to Pertamina. "The first award is the Most Compliance Company in GCG Principle (GCG Award), which is crucial for Pertamina. As Pertamina manages an income of IDR 1.338 trillion per year, GCG represents our commitment to managing this," she said during the event.

Regarding the award for PNRE Subholding, specifically geothermal energy, Nicke emphasized its significance. As a country rich in geothermal resources, this is crucial in the energy transition efforts. Similarly, biofuel developed by PT KPI Subholding R&P signifies an effort toward energy self-sufficiency.

"By blending 35 percent bioenergy into diesel, we can save our trade balance, which has been done by imports. We have reduced it by IDR 122 trillion per year. It can decrease emissions by 28 million tons of CO2 per year. Thus, the impact on Indonesia's trade balance and emissions is significant," added Nicke.

Nicke further mentioned appreciation for PT PIS Subholding IML, which successfully added 50 international routes.

As for The Most Influential Woman In Energy Transition award, Nicke highlighted its importance as motivation for all women in the country. It signifies that women are also capable of leading in men-dominated industry.

"As a woman, I want to encourage that in male-dominated industries, women can also be leaders. Many accomplished female engineers exist. This award is also dedicated to Pertamina’s officers and management willing to be led by women," expressed Nicke.

Nicke also expressed gratitude for having an extraordinary team that collaborates effectively. Consequently, Pertamina became the only company in Indonesia to enter the global Fortune 500 and received the number one award worldwide for ESG performance in the integrated oil and gas company category.

"With these awards, it seems that we are on the right track. All that is left for us is to accelerate everything to further expedite the entire energy transition and create an even greater impact," Nicke concluded.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
