Implementing Risk Management, PHE Commits to HSSE Implementation

Jakarta, March 1, 2024 - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, continues to enhance its performance in contributing to the national energy by consistently prioritizing Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects in every activity. With risk-based performance, PHE recorded over 57 million safe work hours with a workforce of 127,665/day throughout 2023.

PHE also recorded a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) ratio of 0.14, with the maximum tolerance of 0.19 (lower achievement indicates better performance), with total working hours during 2023 exceeding 333 million.

In 2023, PHE also received several prestigious awards in the HSSE field, including 29 Subroto Energy Efficiency Awards (PSBE) and 1 Dharma Karya Award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia.

Moreover, PHE obtained 12 Gold PROPER predicates and 19 Green Proper predicates from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia. PROPER is the Program for Assessing Corporate Environmental Management Performance, the highest award for environmental management performance and community empowerment.

In the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) field, PHE successfully achieved a rating of 21.5 or medium risk after undergoing assessment by the international rating agency Sustainalytics. This success marks an improvement, as PHE was previously rated at 30.5 or high risk in 2022.

Geri Simansyah Achsan, VP HSSE of PHE, stated that the company actively involves all employees in workplace safety campaigns. "PHE emphasizes the importance of knowledge and awareness by conducting campaigns and education through town halls, offline/online training, instructional videos, and quizzes that all employees can participate in. This is to ensure that employees actively engage in HSSE aspects in their daily work," said Geri Simansyah Achsan.

Employee involvement in HSSE campaigns is also carried out during the ongoing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) month. HSSE holds various engaging activities, including talk shows, quizzes, HSSE video competitions, Basic Life Support (BLS) competitions, shooting competitions, hazard hunts, and other activities for all employees to participate in.

"With various activities conducted at PHE to raise awareness of the HSSE aspects’ importance, improving safety performance is the initial step in achieving excellent performance to continue contributing to national energy," conveyed Geri.

PHE is committed to the Ten Universal Principles or Ten Principles of the UNGC in its strategy and operations as part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) implementation. Supporting Governance aspects, PHE also maintains Zero Tolerance for Bribery by ensuring fraud prevention and ensuring the company is free from bribery. One is through the Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) implementation, which is standardized to ISO 37001:2016.
