Contributing to National Economic Independence, the President Director of Pertamina Receives the Nawacita Award 2023

Jakarta, September 9, 2023 - The President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, has received an award as an inspirational figure in building National Economic Independence at the Nawacita Award 2023.

As one of Forbes' worlds 100 most powerful women, the Jury Panel recognized Nicke Widyawati for her inspirational efforts in achieving national self-reliance. She has echoed the "Bring The Barrel Home" spirit, which involves bringing oil and gas production from abroad to be processed at Pertamina refineries to achieve energy sovereignty in Indonesia. As the President Director of Pertamina, she has also successfully led the company in achieving a 60% Domestic Component Level (TKDN) in 2022.

The award ceremony, organized by Nawacita Indonesia Media, was presented by the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Yasonna H. Laoly, and took place at Dharmawangsa, Jakarta, on Friday (8/9).

In his speech, Minister Yasonna H. Laoly stated that the Nawacita Award is an appreciation for national and local figures’ success who have made significant contributions to the advancement of regions, the nation, and the support of Indonesia’s progress.

"Nawacita Award serves as support for the President Jokowi's programs implementation. I hope this momentum will continue, and future leaders will continue to contribute to our nation," Minister Yasonna said.

Upon receiving the award, Nicke Widyawati, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), apprecietes the recognition in the Economic Independence category. She emphasized that economic independence is closely tied to energy independence, as energy serves as a catalyst for a country's economic growth.

"What we have achieved so far is the result of support from all parties, and I, as a leader in a state-owned enterprise, take pride in it. There are still many challenges ahead. Leading a state-owned enterprise means carrying out a duty. The most important thing is to provide services, become the locomotive of the national economy, and develop micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) because this is Indonesia's strength," Nicke stated.

According to Nicke, when an energy crisis occurs, Pertamina is present to support MSMEs. Similarly, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pertamina actively strengthened MSMEs, building a stable economic growth in Indonesia that garnered admiration worldwide.

" This achievement is not mine or Pertamina's alone but belongs to all Indonesians. Economic independence must be realized in all aspects. I hope this award will inspire me, the Pertamina team, and Indonesian to work even harder to achieve national economic independence," Nicke concluded.

In addition to the President Director of Pertamina, nine other national figures received the Nawacita Award 2023 in various categories: General (Ret.) AM Hendropriyono (Defense and Security), Prof. Dr. KH Nasaruddin Umar (Strengthening Indonesian Diversity), General (Ret.) Moeldoko (Character Education of the Nation), Hermus Indou (Democracy Advocate), ST Burhanuddin (Law Enforcement), Rusdi Kirana (Infrastructure, Industry, and Transportation), Dr. Lie Agustinus Dharmawan (Welfare of the People), Ery Cahyadi (Regional Development), and Cinta Laura (Millennial Inspiration).

During the award ceremony, Sarman Simanjorang, the Jury Panel of Nawacita Award 2023, explained that the Economic Independence category required extensive deliberation due to the inclusion of 25 influential business leaders, making the selection process challenging. However, the choice ultimately fell on President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati.

"We have seen her extraordinary achievements, transforming a state-owned enterprise into one of the world's top 150 companies. In 2022, Pertamina also recorded its highest profit in history, and its leader is one of the 100 influential women in the world," he remarked.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
