Collaborating with Adiwiyata Schools, Pertamina Invites the Young Generation to Utilize New Renewable Energy

Jakarta, June 16, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero) urges the young generation to promote new and renewable energy (NRE) utilization by organizing educational activities in ten Adiwiyata Schools, aiming to become the pioneers of Pertamina's Self-Reliant Energy Schools.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that this year Pertamina would visit ten Adiwiyata award-winning schools to instill environmentally friendly behavior and provide education on NRE utilization. These Adiwiyata Schools are located in Pertamina's operational areas throughout Indonesia, including Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua.

Pertamina's activities in Adiwiyata Schools are part of the company's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility. It also follows Pertamina's efforts to support the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's initiative in implementing Adiwiyata values in educational institutions.

And efforts in implementing the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) commitments and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 Climate Action.

Fadjar revealed that one of the Adiwiyata Schools is SMA Negeri 40 Jakarta (Public Senior High School 40). Pertamina installed a 3.3 kWp solar panel system to support physics laboratory utilization, such as power supply, lighting, and laptop charging. This assistance is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 3,820 kg CO2 eq per year and save on electricity costs.

Furthermore, Fadjar explained that Pertamina also held an Energizing Sustainable Community event at the same high school. In the event held on Friday (16/6), Pertamina representatives discussed environmental issues with actress and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocate of UNDP Indonesia, Chelsea Islan, and Presidential Special Staff for Innovation, Education, and Outermost Region, Billy Mambrasar.

"In addition to the sharing session attended by more than 450 students and teachers, various interesting activities were conducted, including workshops to become social media influencers and entrepreneurs in waste fashion utilization, recycling competitions, murals, message walls, and various other environmental-themed activities," explained Fadjar.

"We appreciate SMA Negeri 40 Jakarta for their collaboration in implementing this program, allowing Pertamina to share knowledge in preserving the environment by utilizing NRE," expressed Fadjar.
